Angela Bassett Goes From Broadway To Network TV To Play Director Of The CIA

Angela Bassett is in final negotiations to star in FOX’s untitled drama pilot.  Bassett will play the very calculating director of the CIA who has an unusually large amount of political power.

The TV show follows Jane Forsythe (Saxon Sharbino) an orphaned 14-year-old daughter of a CIA operative who encounters a mystical rogue agent (McMahon) who acts as her surrogate father and professional mentor in the covert world.

Bassett joins Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon in the network show. This will be McMahon’s first TV show appearance since his long run on the FX hit show. The last time Bassett was on TV was when she played Dr. Cate Banfield on ER in 2009.

The actress just finished a critically praised run on Broadway in The Mountaintop starring opposite Samuel L. Jackson. The show was well received by audiences and critics alike. Many critics believe that both actors are easily going to win a Tony.

Authored by Karyn Usher and directed by Brett Ratner the network show will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and 21Laps
