'Chronicle' Director Josh Tranks Eyes Spider-Man Spin-Off 'Venom'

Chronicle director Josh Tranks is the reported top choice to direct the Spider-man spin-off Venom. The movie will feature the sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form that requires a human to bond with for its survival. After that process, the host is endowed with enhanced evil powers.

Venom was briefly tossed into Spider-Man 3 under the name Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace), and was proven to be Spider-man’s arch nemesis. First appearing in comic books in 1984, it would be years before the alien costume would leave Peter Parker and merge with rival photographer Eddie Brock.

Even though the script for the movie by Jacob Aaron Estes has been around for some time, this version is rumored to have no connections to previous drafts.

The lizard is the titled villain in the upcoming Spider-man movie. Therefore, eager movie goers will have to wait until the July 3rd release of The Amazing Spider-Man to see if there is any reference to this super hero’s most challenging adversary, Venom.

The film is still under negotiations with Tranks and Sony Pictures.
