It’s official, Joel Kinnaman will be joining the ranks of Peter Weller, Robert John Burke (“RoboCop 3”), Richard Eden (the short-lived Canadian TV series), David Sobolov (the animated series “RoboCop: Alpha Commando”) and Page Fletcher (the mini-series “RoboCop: Prime Directives”). Kinnaman will be the newest actor to suit up in metal, bulletproof armor to play RoboCop in the upcoming reboot.
According to Deadline, the Safe House star has inked a deal with MGM, after reports surfaced he was offered the role last week.
Kinnaman has been tapped for major movie roles before, such as Steven Soderbergh’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and David Dobkin’s Arthur & Lancelot. However, the plug was pulled on both projects.
This time it appears Kinnaman may be standing on firmer ground as MGM has been developing this project for a little while.
In an attempt to revive the fledgling franchise, MGM has recruited Quantum of Solace rising scribe Josh Zetumer to pen the script and Elite Squad director José Padilha to helm the film.
Joel Kinnaman has kept his schedule full recently. Aside from starring in AMC’s crime drama, The Killing, Kinnaman appears in Swedish film series Johan Falk and upcoming film Snabba Cash II.
