Solange Knowles Dishes On Fashion, New Music, And Her Influences

Solange Knowles talks fashion with Vogue Italia’s Black Blog amid her new modeling contract with Next Model Management.

“Artistic expression is invaluable to me in all walks of my career and I am so excited to continue to develop this path along with such an amazing team at Next Model Management,” said Solange.

The 25 year old fashionista’s name has been blooming on the style radar for the past years because she’s a chic clothes chameleon who doesn’t suffer from must-have trends.   And many are taking notice. From high-waisted pants with pleats to imperfect funky heels all finished with an unapologetic, grandiose afro (some days), the outspoken Knowles seems to have found her niche.

Solange explains what and who inspires her style;

“Travelling, diving into other cultures face first. The colors everywhere, the color palette of shotgun houses in New Orleans, spices in Marrakesh, nail polishes on shelf at my favorite nail shop in Brooklyn. I just left Rwanda and have never seen colors used in such natural and spectacular way in my life. I see color before I see any other element in design.”

The unique beauty defining her own style as “the canvas of our individuality, an outlet for expression,” is mostly an online shopper whose favorite designers include Acne, DVF, Marni, Boxing Kitten, and J.Crew.

Though recognized widely for her style, “I feel completely flattered and also very humbled,” the singer who DJ’s frequently is now trying her hand at design with a junior’s line, Dereon, a sister line to House of Dereon. The Houston native who calls Brooklyn home is also set to release her next album.

“It’s the kind of record you put on when your man is coming over, when you’re with your girls,” Solange tells V Magazine. “There are songs that make you wanna dance because we were kind of partying our way through the record, but it’s very chill.”

With so much on her plate (she’s also Mom to Daniel Julez), we think the flavorful talent is doing well, but Solange defines success in her own terms.

“Defining success on my own terms. First, being a loving and committed mother. I have failed in all things if I have not achieved that. Being an artist that creates to express the needs of my own, and in the process hopefully inspiring others. Having the financial stability to support the lifestyle that makes me feel fulfilled. I know that happiness is a temporary state of mind, success means for me constantly growing, evolving to find that place.”

We wish Solange the best in her venture of modeling With Next Model. Congrats!
