Ashton Kutcher and Lea Michelle should be happy that, despite the negative reviews, ‘New Years Eve came out on top in the box office this weekend. Critics didn’t think much of the film that also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Effron, Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert De Niro. However; moviegoers didn’t agree and came out to theaters anyway resulting in $13.7 million for the star studded romantic comedy.
Jonah Hill’s comedy, The Sitter took second place with $10 million, followed by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 which stayed alive in third place with $7.9 million. The Muppets” followed with $7 million. “Arthur Christmas” took in $6.6 and Hugo, $6.1.
Kutcher and Lea may have defied the critics and come out on top this weekend, but next weekend “New Year’s Eve” may face stiff competition. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked will be opening and it should be interesting to see if Ashton’s film can hold it’s ground.
