Spike Lee's 'Oldboy' Is Getting A Darker Ending

Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’ re-creation is receiving some push back from loyal fans of the original Chan-wook’s ‘Oldboy’. Ever since ‘Oldboy’ fans heard that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were involved, it seemed to put a bad taste in their mouths. Maybe, just maybe Josh Brolin taking the lead role will sweeten up some fans, or else Colin Firth playing the villain just might do it.

As for the fate of the script, it will be a completely different version written by Mark Protosevich, the same writer behind ‘I am Legend’. Fans don’t fret, the story will share some of the same elements as the original but there are numerous differences to keep the story fresh.

Lee says that his version will be faithful to either Park Chan-wook’s or the Munga version. Lee goes on to say “The ending will be something that the audiences will all be, especially the fans of the original, will be very happy with. In fact, some may consider it to be a bit darker.”

A bit darker?? Have you seen the original?! This zany, very dark racy film pushes the envelope to the max! It will be interesting to see what Spike Lee means by “a bit darker”.

Do you think it’s possible for ‘Old Boy’ to have an even darker end?
