UPDATE- Did First Lady Michelle Obama get booed at NASCAR event along with Second Lady Jill Biden? Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden served as grand marshals at NASCAR’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday. A veteran and his family were also on hand to honor military troops and families.
Before the veteran family, Mrs. Biden and Mrs. Obama delivered “the most famous words in motor sports”, “Gentlemen star your engine” the flurry of boos can be heard from the crowd.
But according to the ABC World News anchor, President Barack Obama and the White House is downplaying the event stating the it was a loud chaotic event in general and it’s not certain if they were boos in the first place.
An official statement from Kristina Schake, the communications director for the first lady, stated Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden enjoyed their visit to the speedway, and are looking forward to working across the country to honor America’s veterans and military families.”
NASCAR spokesman David Higdon also added, “It didn’t strike our attention at all until we started seeing clips and some overinflated blogs.” Higdon added to LA Times,
“It could be anyone from the first lady to a notable athlete or celebrity. There was nothing abnormal,” he said. “We’re disappointed that it got overblown … but that’s the political climate that we’re in.”
