Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long Set To Join Original Cast For Best Man Sequel

Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan and the remaining cast of the 1999 film The Best Man will soon rejoin writer, director and producer Malcolm D. Lee to shoot The Best Man sequel.

According to deadline.com, Universal Studios has bought the options for the sequel. The idea to remake the popular wedding film came after a reunion dinner where most of the original cast members engaged in conversation welcoming the idea.

The original film grossed over $35 million, which is a formula Lee clearly wishes to duplicate as he is in talks with bringing back the entire original cast which featured successful actors and actresses such as Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Moore, Nia Long, Terrence Howard and Morris Chestnut.

The theme of the original movie centered around the tense relationship between Morris Chestnut and his best man Taye Diggs.   Taye Diggs played a successful writer whose novel (which implied he may have slept with soon to be bride prior to her engagement) was set to come out on the eve of the wedding.   As you may imagine, mayhem ensued after Chestnut is made aware of his friend’s misgivings and the wedding teeters on whether Chestnut will accept the past.

Not sure what turn the new film will take, but with this cast of favorites it’s almost sure to be another certified hit. Are you looking forward to the sequel of The Best Man?
