Luther actor Idris Elba may really want to the role as the next James Bond, but not as the next black James Bond. The Emmy-nominated actor sat down with Linda Wertheimer of NPR’s Morning Edition and 007 came up.
“It’s a rumor,” he said. “It’s a very old rumor. My dad and I were talking about this the other day. I would do it, but I don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I ‘m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”
Interesting. And just want would Idris be willing to do get the part?
I’d not only get in the cab, but I’d take the taxi driver out of the car, hostage. The taxi: jump out while it was moving, jump on to a pedal bike that was just past the door as I got on it, and then get on a plane — on the wing — land on top of Sony Studios, slide through the air conditioning, and land in the office.
After all that excitement Idris ended with, “if Sony decided to call me and said hey, we wanted to do [James Bond], I’d definitely consider it.”
That’s right Idris, keep them guessing! And in case you’re wondering how the handsome, talented actor spends his free time: watch the video below:
