John Singleton is in development with Ice Cube on an N.W.A Biopic
John Singleton in a press junket for his latest film Abduction mentioned that he is teaming up with Ice Cube to create the biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton.’ Based on the premiere gangster rap group of the 90’s called N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) that was covered in controversy due to strong explicit lyrics and was banned from many mainstream outlets. In spite of that, the group managed to sell over 9 million units nationwide. Ice Cube was a founder/original member of the group that produced hits such as “Chin Check” “Fuck the Police” and “Express Yourself”.
While Singleton didn’t say much about the biopic project, he did say this-
“I can’t talk too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet, but Cube and I are talking about doing the N.W.A. story… The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really wants to make it.
Singleton worked with Ice Cube before on the classic hood story “Boyz in da Hood”, starring Ice Cube and Lawrence Fishbourne. Singleton also directed movies such as “Baby Boy” “Poetic Justice” and “Higher Learning” making the role of directing “Straight Outta Compton” only for him.
New Line Cinema is ready to do this, Ice Cube is ready to do this. So let’s do this!!
