Serena Williams Dominates Opponent In First Round US Open Win

Serena Williams may have had one of the worst match breakdowns of her career at the US Open in 2009 but it’s all behind her as she aims for another grand slam win at the 2011 U.S Open. In 2009 Serena was the heavy favorite to win until she met Kim Clijsters in the semi-finals. It was not a pretty sight as Serena unleashed a tirade on a lineswoman towards the end. Serena lost and Kim went on to win back to back titles of US Open.

But Serena is a champion and like most she’s had a bad days. Matter of fact she had an entire bad year when she was forced to sit out due to life-threatening health issues.

In the year 2011 Serena came roaring back. She enters the U.S Open as the heavy favorite with only Maria Sharapova matching her buzz. Unfortunately for no. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki many are are just hoping she makes it through the quarters.

Tuesday night at 10:31pm Serena needed just under an hour to defeat 54th ranked, 19-year old Serbian Bojana Jovanovski, 6-1, 6-1.

“I’m glad that one’s over. It took a long time.” Referring more to her journey back to Tennis than the 56 minutes it took to defeat Bojana

And about the whole Kim Clijsters thing,

“If anything, I thought, ‘Wow, I’m back. I haven’t played in a long time.’ I’m telling you: Out of sight, out of mind for me,” she said. “You guys should try it.”

Thanks Serena, we will. Check pics below of Serena getting goofy before the Open this past weekend…
