Beyonce opened her intimate concert celebrating her album “4” with a song from Michael Jackson’s extensive catalog. Bey chose, “I Wanna Be Where You Are” telling her fans
“This show is gonna be a little different. I just wanna have a good time.”
Beyonce is beginning to draw many comparisons to Michael as of late, from the Associated Press‘ review of her concert to her husband, Jay-Z.
Music writer Nekesa said of Beyonce,
Like Jackson, Beyonce started singing as a child, and like Jackson, she became the undisputed star of her group.
Jay-Z went a little further when he told 99 Jamz host Lorenzo ‘Ice T’ Thomas this past weekend,
“What I learned from [Beyonce] is similar to what what I learned from Mike, and I know that’s blasphemy to compare the two because Mike was such an innovator, but she’s like the second coming.
For the hard work and the dedication that she puts into her shows — it just makes you want to work harder at your craft, she’s like a machine.”
Some may debate whether the comparison is appropriate, but Beyonce is undeniably on a way to achieving the icon status. Her intimate show received a slew of positive reviews. Bey performed to a standing crowd of nearly 3,000 adoring fans and sang not only songs from “4” but other hits from her Destiny Child era.
