Update-Amy Winehouse Dead: The troubled star died at 27 years old Saturday July 23rd, 2011. A private ceremony and cremation was held for on Tuesday July 26th with thousands of fans mourning her death in the streets of London. Her music has experienced a resurgence with “Back to Black” re-entering the Billboard charts at no. 9. As fans, artist and others continue to mourn Amy’s death, Vibe magazine has literally stopped the press to do it’s due diligence to the fallen artist.
Vibe magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Jermaine Hall searched through a stock of photos before settling on a 2008 black and white shot of Amy. Former Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland is the August/September 2011 cover girl for Vibe’s “Juice” but Hall had to make room for one more.
“We had literally 36 hours to pull it off. It was a stop-the-presses situation, obviously,” Hall said. “It was a hustle, but I thought it was necessary.”
Hall and is team featured Amy’s producer and friend Salaam Remi in the issue where he discussed the last six days he spent with Winehouse before her untimely death. Here are some excerpts courtesy of MTV,
I’m in London now. I’m out here because [Amy and I] were supposed to go to a wedding today. And before I could get to her yesterday she passed.
We were in the middle of working on the album. She finished writing the record. We just hadn’t recorded.
For the last couple of weeks we were video chatting regularly. I was just talking to Nas. Both her and Nas were born on September 14, so we were going to Barbados with all of them for her birthday. She really doesn’t look forward to her birthday, you know what I’m saying?
Vibe Magazine Amy Winehouse issue will hit newsstands on August 16th.
