After a shooting at New York’s Irving Plaza concert venue May 26, Meek Mill has come to the defense of Troy Ave, a rapper who has been charged for firing into a VIP suite at the T.I. headlined show.

The Philadelphia MC posted a message on Instagram May 31 with a photo of Ave in a wheelchair at a court appearance.

Meek began the post by blasting the government and the press.

“The laws they made ain’t designed to protect us! They like, ‘get killed or get a 100 years,’ ” Mill said. “Don’t let the press ‘gas’ you to go against ya own people! Because if that was a cop Tryna protect his life the police force gone stand behind them 100 percent.”

He continues, ” ‘Pic look crazy’ #freetroy and never let these ‘bum a– nobody ‘sucka’ crab in the barrel dudes pull you down! Most of the time it’s all for attention…. that’s all these bustas be wanting for real!”

The hashtag in Meek’s response refers to the attempted murder charge handed to Ave May 30 for May 26 shooting in New York City. It left one person dead and two others, besides Troy, injured.

According to The New York Times, the 33-year-old – born Roland Collins – was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. His lawyers, Scott E. Leemon and John Stella, asked Judge Ushir Pandit-Durant for $50,000 bail on his behalf. But the request was denied until trial. Troy’s attorneys said their client was not responsible for the late night shooting in which Ronald McPhatter, one of his bodyguards, was killed.

“He’s the real victim here,” attorney Scott E. Leemon said in court. “McPhatter died a hero trying to protect Mr. Collins. He was not shot by Mr. Collins.” Leemon added scientific evidence would show their client did not shoot himself as reports claim.

In video released last week, eight-second footage shows the moment Ave limped into the VIP area of the venue and opened fire. The rapper was reportedly already shot when he entered the room.
