1. Powerful Personal Narrative
A personal narrative is the systematic integration of beliefs, knowledge, skills, ideas, experiences, values, emotions and desires into a coherent and dynamic whole. It serves as a filter in helping us interpret, interact and determine our role in the world. Without a coherent personal narrative it is hard to find our footing in the world.
Maryland psychologist May Benatar, Ph.D. says a surprising number of people actually don’t have a coherent story, something that hangs together, makes sense and has some internal consistency to it. The story may have large, important chunks missing or the narrative is fragmented and chaotic.
A powerful personal narrative gives us the confidence and courage necessary to face down what to others may seem like insurmountable obstacles.
