Black Star Power: The ‘2013 BET Hip Hop Awards’

The “2013 BET Hip Hop Awards” aired last night, and was loaded with star-studded performances. The previously recorded show featured performances from Diddy, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar, to name a few. Although there were many notable performances, Diddy ruled the stage, literally. As reported by hollywoodlife.com:

“Diddy ruled the night’s performance  – almost quite literally. With a crown on his head, the performer lit up the stage. He took the stage with French Montana, Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross to perform their hit “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’,”and the crowd went wild for their collaboration. Other artists were singing along to all the lines the whole time, so it was a crowd-pleaser even in a room of artists with their own hit songs!”

Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar seemed particularly amused by the crown Diddy was wearing, especially since Kendrick recently declared himself the ‘King of New York’ on his “Control” verse. Kendrick was also one of the night’s main performers as well as the highlight of the night with his TDE’s family Cypher.

From an awards standpoint, Kendrick shared the night with Young Money rapper Drake, as they were both tied for the evening’s most awards. According to theboombox.com:

Drake and Kendrick Lamar both were tied for five awards last night, when including their collaboration on A$AP Rocky‘s ‘Problems,’ which won the Reese’s Perfect Combo Award. Drizzy, who was absent from the show, won the Best Hip Hop Video award for ‘Started From the Bottom.’ Kendrick Lamar took Album of the Year for his critically-acclaimed opus ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city.’”
