Luxury Brand Louis Vuitton Embraces Street Culture for Miami Store Opening

Louis Vuitton has some some serious street cred. The luxury brand tapped graffiti artist Retna (aka Marquis Lewis) to design the mural of its new temporary storefront in Miami’s Design District.

The Los Angeles artist choose a “Miami Vice” color palette of hot pink, teal, and blue to pay homage to the tropical city, according to WWD. Retna used his unique hieroglyphic style, inspired by ancient writing styles like Asian calligraphy and Arabic, to design the façade. He also commissioned for three paintings in the boutique’s VIP salon, as well as a printed scarf that will be sold exclusively at the Miami location. The luxury brand first approached the artist, who has a history with gangs, to mentor inner-city children as part of its involvement with Miami’s Overtown Youth Center.

The permanent flagship store is set to open in February at Aventura Mall.
