Chris Rock made a joke about Chris Brown’s violent past during his interview on the Today Show. Brown was scheduled to appear on the show Friday morning and in response to a promo about Brown’s appearance, Rock laughed and said, “I hope the weather doesn’t SMACK us upside the head tomorrow.”
Is there a battle of the Chrises in the near future? Probably not, but Rock did make the R&B singer the butt of his joke as he was on the show promoting his new film Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Rock plays the voice of the comical zebra named Marty in the upcoming animated sequel.
During the interview, host Matt Lauer made a rather innocent comment about the beautiful weather, but Chris Rock saw nothing but opportunity.
“We’re hoping the same kind of weather hits us tomorrow when we’ve got Chris Brown out on the plaza,” Lauer said. The actor simply couldn’t help himself as he immediately snickered and asked the host, “Did you just say you hope the same weather HITS you?” Rock laughed as he added, “I hope the weather doesn’t SMACK us upside the head tomorrow.” The joke was an obvious reference to the Chris Brown and Rihanna fiasco that happened back in 2009.
As scheduled, Chris Brown made an appearance for the Today Show’s summer concert series this morning. The R&B singer and part time rapper performed his latest single “Don’t Wake Me Up” for the massive crowd of adoring fans.
“We have to break the record for the largest crowd the today show has ever seen. The current title is held by ME. 18,000,” Chris Brown tweeted to his followers on Thursday. In addition he posted a picture of the fans that had been camped outside the Rockefeller Center Plaza days before he even showed up for the performance.
