Leave it up to Donald Trump to create an internet frenzy around his big Obama announcement and not deliver on the goods! Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney who may have his own trouble brewing with the Staples CEO divorce case doesn’t need Trump making his life more miserable.
President Obama on the other hand is likely having a hardy laugh. So what was the big announcement? At 12pm on Facebook and Twitter, Trump revealed in a video:
“I have a deal for the president,” he said. “If Barack Obama opens up and gives his college records and applications, and passport application and records, I will give to a charity of his choice, a check immediately for $5 million.”
Trump continued,
“If he releases these records, it will end the question, and indeed the anger, of many Americans. The records must be given by October 31st at 5 p.m. in the afternoon.”
The bold announcement however had the opposite effect with the video garnering 30,883 dislikes to 13,726 likes. In addition to some rather comical responses.
“I am giving Mr. Trump a 5pm deadline to deal w/ the hair.” – Andy Cohen
“Someone should make a Kickstarter to offer #Trump 5 million to shut up about #Obama already.” – Drew Carey
“Somewhere right now, Barack Obama is laughing so hard milk is coming out of his nose. #trump” – Mary Beth Williams
Not surprisingly Donald Trump found a way to make the negative a positive and responded to the comments tweeting: “The response has been fantastic— actually overwhelming! Thank you!”
This latest act of desperation harkens back to Trump’s birther movement.
The real estate mogul was among the first from the right-wing fringe to give life to the “birther” movement that suggested that Obama was actually born in Kenya and thus ineligible to be president of the United States.
