The picture of Jessica Simpson’s baby girl Maxwell in a yellow bikini is causing quite the stir. Simpson has received a slew of backlash from many who felt the picture of baby Maxwell in the crochet bikini was inappropriate. Simpson shared the photo with Katie Couric earlier this week.
Claude Knights, the director of Kidscape, said, “It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini. Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and behaviors are copied widely. It is to be hoped that parents will understand that ‘baby bikinis’ are totally inappropriate, and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood. We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children’s early years.”
Note everyone was ready to beat down Jessica for the photo, some jumped to her defense.
Jacqueline Burt of The Stir added,
“First of all, completely decent, non-pervert types have been photographing babies in the buff for ages. Second of all, if you really want to read THAT much into the picture, you could say Simpson was making a joke about trading her swimsuit model past for new motherhood, or that because the bikini is crocheted like an old-fashioned bathing suit, Simpson is calling for a return to old-fashioned values, or that Maxwell Drew’s baby mohawk is an anti-establishment statement against modern beauty standards.”
Meanwhile Jessica is too busy managing her hectic life as a new mom, soon-to-be-wife and uber successful business woman to care. Her latest tweet was a photo of the hot mama in a long sleeved black dress showing off her sexy post baby body!
