Mariah Carey helped her husband Nick Cannon make his first public appearance since being hospitalized for kidney failure at the 2012 BET Honors.
The BET Honors, hosted by Gabrielle Union, was held at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C to help recognize the leading African-Americans in music, arts, media, literary arts, service, education and entertainment. Honorees for the night included Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, filmmaker Spike Lee, famed poet Maya Angelou, the Tuskegee Airmen and track and field coach Beverly Kearney.
Mariah was a walking beauty in a form fitting nude and black gown showing off every bit of her post baby body. Performers honoring Mariah Carey included Patti LaBelle singing a touching rendition of ‘Hero’ and Kelly Rowland with rapper Raekwon singing ‘Fantasy’. Kelly said of her performance,
“I have to look at her forehead when I’m singing and not her eyes ’cause I know I’m gonna break out in tears.”
While accepting her award Mariah Carey brought her husband Nick Cannon and their son Moroccan, Monroe remained backstage.
“What most people don’t get to experience is the human,” said Cannon onstage referencing his health scare with kidney failure earlier this month. Nick also added that despite his wife’s public persona as a ‘diva’ she put it all aside to prepare soup for him at 3am “when my kidneys ain’t acting right.” He ended with, “To know you guys are honoring her tonight, I have to continue to honor her every day.”
BET Honors will air February 13th at 9pm on BET.
