His mother, Sharon Benjamin-Hodo, was reportedly found dead in her Atlanta home. Billboard.com reports that her death was confirmed by a representative for the OutKast member, but no details regarding how she died have been released.
Benjamin-Hodo was noted for her work with underprivileged children. She founded the Starlight Camp to continue her efforts. The foundation operates from the New Morning Light Mission Baptist Church in Conley, Ga. Her husband, Pastor Robert Hodo, runs services at the church.
A rep for the rapper, born Andre Benjamin, requests that supporters give to his mother’s Starlight Camp rather than send flowers.
