President Donald Trump went on a wild and unhinged social media posting spree over the Labor Day weekend.
And he’s facing growing accusations of deceptiveness over one video in particular that he posted on Monday.
But that’s not even the worst of it. Several hours after he posted it, the video backfired spectacularly when cameras literally caught his hypocrisy in real time.
In the video, he attacked former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for not saluting troops, which was strange in itself because both clips of the former presidents actually show them … saluting the troops.
The video plays over the soft, emotional song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. (No word whether she approved of its use. Trump routinely ignores copyright laws and uses songs without permission, removing them only after legal threats over copyright violations.
The Biden clip shows him glancing at his watch during a dignified transfer ceremony for fallen troops returning home from overseas. Trump famously wore a MAGA cap during just such a ceremony in March for soldiers killed in Trump’s unapproved and deadly war on Iran. It’s customary to remove hats as a sign of respect. Trump did not bother.
In the Obama clip, the popular president exits Marine One and salutes the two Marines stationed at the helicopter, holding a cup.
The video also takes a swipe at French President Emmanuel Macron and King Charles. Trump includes clips that appear to show the world leaders ignoring fainting troops.
In one, Macron simply doesn’t see the soldier. The other snippet of King Charles was heavily edited and didn’t show the British royal trying to catch a fainting soldier.
At one point in the 2-minute, 50-plus-second video, the words “the side of Trump the media doesn’t show you” pop up as Trump hugs voters and veterans.
The post also claims he’s “the people’s president” at one point.
After all that, a video of Trump exiting Marine One on Monday shows him yelling in the direction of the helicopter’s Marine pilot, angrily gesturing with his hands, then ignoring the saluting Marines standing by as he departed.
A frenzy of disbelief and sarcasm erupted on social media over Trump’s apparent phoniness.
“What a JERK!” an angry Threads user spat out.
Another patiently pointed out, “He is not Obama. Remember that. He doesn’t have the class, the respect for others like Obama or Biden or any other President had…”
This commenter told it straight. “What the hell. If that was Obama, the Republicans would be throwing a fit, but because it’s Florida fats, they don’t care.”
Actually, according to CNN, not only did Trump call the war in Iran “small potatoes,” but on Friday, he used the term and the phrase “not a big thing” in describing his ongoing war on Tehran. At least 18 U.S. troops have lost their lives in his war.
Trump allegedly called them “suckers and losers” during his first term in office in 2018. He’s said to have made the remark while canceling a scheduled visit to commemorate American Marines who lost their lives in France during World War I.
He has denied saying it, but he is on record, in reference to the deceased Sen. John McCain during the 2016 presidential campaign, saying that he didn’t like troops who were killed or captured.
