A Florida man was arrested after authorities say he confronted a police officer inside a Fort Lauderdale hospital and challenged him to a fight, an encounter that left both men injured.
The image of the man after the altercation has gone viral online.
Ronald Jeffrey Johnson, 51, was at Broward Health Medical Center on Aug. 29 when an officer was called to the emergency department because Johnson was allegedly causing a disturbance, according to an arrest report obtained by the New York Post.

The officer, who was working an off-duty detail while wearing his uniform, reported seeing Johnson shouting at hospital employees from across the registration desk. The officer said Johnson’s behavior was disrupting the waiting area and frightening other patients.
“I observed the defendant yelling at medical staff from the opposite side of the registration desk, causing a breach of peace in the waiting room and creating fear in the surrounding patients,” the officer wrote in the incident report.
Johnson allegedly turned his attention to the officer after noticing him.
“I want to fight you,” Johnson reportedly said before moving toward the officer.
The confrontation quickly became physical. According to the arrest report, Johnson grabbed the officer and resisted attempts to restrain him. The officer eventually gained control of Johnson and detained him, ending what the report described as aggressive physical behavior.
Johnson was treated at the same hospital before being transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail, where his booking photo was taken.
The photo showed Johnson’s injuries in full view, with a swollen, bloodied face and a prominent black eye. The image quickly drew attention online, with social media users weighing in on the confrontation.
“Looks like that ‘escorted to the ground’ move got him pretty good,” one user wrote. Another chimed in, “That didn’t end well for him.”
“Bet he won’t do it again,” a user quipped.
Others questioned the extent of Johnson’s injuries and whether the force used during the encounter was necessary.
“Wtf did they do to him? Why even arrest him if y’all was gone beat him like that?” One user asked.
Another added, “God dawg they beat the breaks off him.”
A user bluntly stated, “I think he lost.”
The officer also suffered an injury during the struggle. He sustained a cut to his left hand that required several stitches, according to the report.
Johnson faces charges of aggravated battery on an officer, resisting an officer with violence, assault on an officer and disorderly conduct. Authorities also said he was wanted in Georgia for allegedly failing to appear in court on a terroristic-threats case.
He remained in custody on an $8,500 bond, according to Broward County jail records cited by the New York Post.
The arrest report does not provide further details about why Johnson was at the hospital or what preceded the alleged disturbance.
