Michelle Obama is opening up about a touching first she experienced with her daughters, Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25.
The former first lady said she lost simple pleasures of normalcy when her husband, Barack Obama, became president in 2009.
Malia was 10 and Sasha was 7 at the time. Even after leaving the White House, the Obama family struggled to enjoy everyday life without the constant scrutiny.
As a high-profile family while he was leading the United States of America, the kind of ordinary activities average Americans experience were not always an option for the Obamas.
Even after the 44th president left office, the public glare followed. Michelle found a simple appreciation for a recent car ride with her daughters that nearly moved her to tears.
On the Aug. 12 episode of “IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson,” Michelle asked about Megan Thee Stallion and about living outside her bubble.
The “Traumizine” rapper revealed that she is slowly getting back to enjoying simple things after being in her head following social media backlash.
Michelle understood the struggle, adding, “And that’s a thing you have to learn. Like, becoming famous, who teaches you that?”
She explained how most people get a celebrity’s life wrong, including her daughters.
Barack’s 62-year-old wife then revealed that she just started driving herself again.

She says the experience allowed them to experience a sense of normalcy.

“I just for the first time drove in a car with my daughters by ourselves,” said Michelle.
“That was their Mother’s Day gift for me, and I could cry, right? Because they don’t live in a bubble, as you’ve seen. And one of the reasons is, like, they did.”
During their eight years at the White House, Michelle, her husband, and her children had Secret Service protection and drivers.
Paparazzi have literally kept track of the girls as they lived like normal teenagers, going to parties with friends and hanging out in the public eye.
Even after leaving office, the former first family still used private drivers and Secret Service agents for protection. “We still No driving for me. We still live in a bubble,” Michelle told People in 2018.
But this time, the “Becoming” author let someone else in the driver’s seat.
”So Sasha drove. Malia was in the back,” she shared.
Michelle said riding in the passenger seat felt good. She revealed security agents drove her children before — and still do.
“I mean, we are driven. We are secured in a motorcade,” she explained. “So, they didn’t learn how to drive from me, they learned how to drive from their agents.”

The Chicago native said once she and her daughters got to Palm Springs, they got food from In-N-Out Burger and went to McDonald’s right afterward for the fries.
“But that’s like starting to put some normal back into it. It’s just like a simple car ride,” she expressed. “That’s like joy. That’s gratitude. That’s happiness.”

Another person who has heard Michelle discuss the lack of freedom during Obama’s presidency had enough.
Last May, Michelle spoke candidly about raising her daughters on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast.
She described trying to give her daughters some normalcy in the White House as a “nightmare.”
“They had to drive and they had to go to prom and they were on teams and they traveled to other schools and they had to do college searches, and they went to parties and they had drinks, and they tried out smoking and they did all the things,” she said.
But Michelle said she struggled to keep certain moments out of tabloids and Page Six.
As adults, Malia and Sasha have lived like other women their age, despite the scrutiny that comes with being a former president’s daughters.
Paparazzi have photographed the sisters smoking, drinking, and attending parties. Still, they keep most of their lives private — especially their dating lives.
