Fans had jokes after music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs announced that he is hosting the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on May 15 in Las Vegas. Diddy shared the announcement with a video posted to Instagram on April 21. Diddy is also executive producing the awards show.
Diddy captioned the post, “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!! I am Executive Producing and Hosting the 2022 Billboard Music Awards! Everybody get ready to meet me in Vegas Sun. May 15th!! Ain’t no party like a Diddy party!! Let’s get ready to #ACTBAD!!! @nbc @bbmas #bbmas LOVE.”
“Good morning my neighbors,” said an enthusiastic Diddy in the video. “As the sun rises, I have an announcement I want you all to hear. I am returning! Yes! I am returning. And what better way to do that than to executive produce and to host this year’s 2022 Billboard Awards,” he said.
A seemingly excited Diddy went on to say he was the host with the most and the executive producer that called all the shots. “I’m the ringmaster, P.T. Barnum style. You know ain’t no party like a Diddy party,” he summarized, before adding that the show would have the most disruptive lineup in music history, as well as one of the most controversial hosts. “We gonna act baaad,” he sang. “Act baaad, act bad, act bad, act baaad… F—n Vegas gonna be lit!”
Both celebrities and fans also showed enthusiasm in the comment section. DJ E Feezy replied, “Move time! Vegas about to be LIT!” Billboard replied, “THIS IS BIG” followed by a talking emoji. “Let’s Goooo,” wrote DJ Clue. Actress Kerry Washington replied, “OHHHH KAYYY.”
While fans seemed excited about the show, some also had some sage advice for the musician. “Don’t get slapped,” joked one fan. “Don’t talk about nobody’s wife,” added another.
Fans were referring to the now infamous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
Actress Taye Hansberry noted Diddy’s energy in the announcement. She posted fire emojis followed by, “Love it. I’m taking this energy with me into the day.”
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards airs on May 15 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
