After more than a month of treatment, former President George H.W. Bush may be discharged from the hospital on Monday. Bush has been hospitalized in Houston since Nov. 23 for bronchitis, and has been treated for other complications. The former president also suffers from lower body parkinsonism, and has been restricted to a wheel chair.
“We are hopeful that he can be discharged this coming week, but we’re still taking everything one day at a time,” Bush spokesman Jim McGrath told CNN Saturday night.
TCPalm.com reported that former Governor Jeb Bush also expected his father to be released from the hospital as soon as Monday. Now 88-years-old, the nation’s 41st president has been in high spirits throughout his hospital stay, CNN reports. Bush rooted for the Houston Texans and Texas A&M during their postseason football games, and has enjoyed interactions with the staff of The Methodist Hospital.
At one point during his hospital stay Bush was transferred to the intensive care unit for a persistent fever, but was moved back to regular treatment late last month.
Bush’s grandson, George Prescott Bush, has announced that he will run for office, and is considering a campaign for Texas land commissioner. Should Rick Perry not run for a fourth term as governor in 2014, George P. Bush may also run for the position.
