“Black Ink Crew: Chicago” reality star Charmaine Walker used her Saturday to repost a throwback shot of herself and hubby Neek Bey spending homecoming day at the illustrious HBCU Howard University, the couple’s alma mater. Walker and Bey posed in front of a Howard University sign at a school entrance in the year-old shot.
Walker attended Howard from 2008 to 2012, majoring in speech pathology and audiology, with a minor in psychology.
She reminisced about her years at the university, thanking the school for molding her into the woman she is today.
“Howardites turned into Husband and Wife! Howard was the best experience of my life! It helped mold me into the woman I am today. I learned so much, including how to think smarter, not harder, and being persistent bc teachers and the A building were always TRYING IT!” Walker wrote.
Walker then discussed her late mother, Glenda Walker, herself an alumna of Grambling State, encouraging Charmaine to follow her dream of attending Howard despite her father being against the idea.
“Lol, but it taught me so much. I’m so thankful for my mother because she knew going to Howard was my dream. My mom went to Grambling State, and my Dad felt like black colleges weren’t needed anymore,” she continued.
“In high school, I would cry in my room at the thought of my Dad not letting me attend Howard. My mom came in my room and said, ‘Forget your daddy, momma going to make it happen, don’t worry, I got him,’ next thing I know, they were dropping me off at The Annex!”
Fans applauded the HBCU love story. The 2nd City Ink owner’s followers also praised her mother for supporting her dream.
