A Massachusetts police officer is under investigation after she was accused of threatening two teenage boys over their support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The boys were at a classmate’s home for a sleepover in the Boston suburb of Westwood when the incident occurred.
Risa King, the mother of the Black teen who was singled out, said her son and a Hispanic boy were subjected to a white, off-duty Milton Police officer’s threatening rant on Sept. 19. King told WCVB News that the officer went on a tirade, using profanity to express her disapproval of the Black Lives Matter movement and of defunding police, then went downstairs where she got into her son’s face while “clutching her fists.”
According to the boy’s recollection of events, the officer’s husband attempted to step in as a mediator, but she punched him in the face, causing his nose to bleed.
As the husband tried to take the boys home, the officer allegedly banged on the door of the car, and pulling on the handles.
“In the middle of the night, my son was kicked out of the home he was invited to be in,” King said.
Although it reportedly took some time for her car to get out of the driveway, the boys eventually made it back to Randolph.
The Milton Police Department is conducting an internal affairs investigation, and the Westwood Police Department has also initiated in investigation. The Department of Children and Families has been notified about what took place and is conducting an investigation.
“Recently, the Milton Police Department became aware of an accusation concerning the conduct of our officers,” a statement from the department says. “Once we became aware of the accusation, we immediately initiated an Internal Affairs investigation.”
King said that the officer is a longtime friend of the family, and is unapologetic about the incident. She has been placed on leave, pending the investigation. The department said it will take “appropriate action,” upon the completion of the investigation.
