Kandi Burruss recently made history as the first female artist to win “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday, May 20. Donning a Night Angel costume, the singer-songwriter beat out the Turtle (Jesse McCartney) and the Frog (Bow Wow) in the season 3 finale.
“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” reality star shared in an interview with Nick Cannon, the show host, that she felt “incredible” about being the first female champion. “For a long time I really stopped singing by myself. You get negative feedback so it kind of messes with your head. I had really stopped and I really appreciate you guys for helping me build my confidence back up,” she said to Cannon.
After the winner was announced on Fox, Burruss posted a photo on Instagram that showed her clad in her costume. In her caption, she revealed that she was going to talk about her experience on the secret singing competition series in an Instagram Live story and on Facebook. Some people claimed that they knew Burruss was underneath the mask all along.
Throughout the competition, many clues were given that hinted at Burrussβ identity. At the beginning of the season, Burruss walked into three motel rooms that were numbered 4,5,6. Burruss was featured on the song β4, 5, 6β with artist SolΓ© and JT Money in 1999. One room contained three duck bills, a reference to the Destiny’s Child song “Bills, Bills, Bills” that the Georgia peach helped write. Another room was filled with a group of older women, alluding to Burruss’ Old Lady Gang restaurant.
Fans were ecstatic over Burruss’ big win.
