Lil Yachty dropped the video to his song “Oprah’s Bank Account” last month, and it’s gotten Oprah Winfrey‘s attention. The song features both Drake and DaBaby.
In the video, Yachty dresses up like Winfrey to play the fictional character “Boprah.” He then interviews Drake on a program that’s supposed to look like “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
“I love it. I love it. I loveeeeee it. Yes, I love it,” Winfrey told The Associated Press about the song. “I haven’t seen the video, but it’s nice to be in a Drake song no matter what, especially for your bank account, OK.”
“Oprah’s Bank Account” sits at the No. 23 position on Billboard’s rap songs chart. It will be on Yachty’s forthcoming album “Lil Boat 3,” slated for release this year.
Initially, Yachty wanted another artist on the song instead of Drake and DaBaby, but things never materialized.
“It’s so crazy, because I originally wanted to put Lizzo on it,” Yachty told Complex in March. “I sent it to her, and I don’t want to say she didn’t like it, because she never got back to me on it, which was cool. I understand people are busy.”
Yachty is far from the first rapper to reference Winfrey in a song, because artists have been doing it ever since she became a megastar.
For example, Rapsody has a song titled “Oprah” on her third LP, “Eve,” which came out last year. On The Roots’ 2008 song “Rising Up,” Black Thought says, “We not the kids cooling out on the sofa with it / We about to dominate the globe like Oprah did it.”
Plus, Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Ludacris, and Lil Wayne have all used Winfrey’s name in their music.
