Oprah Winfrey and her beau Stedman Graham have been together for more than three decades, but now they’re separated.
The couple isn’t apart because of relationship drama; they’re staying away from each other thanks to the current pandemic.
On Monday, Winfrey had an Instagram Live interview on O, The Oprah Magazine and said although she hasn’t been infected, she’s self-quarantining in her house, located in Santa Barbara, California.
But Graham, who also doesn’t have the illness, is staying elsewhere, although he’s not far.
“He’s at the guesthouse, because you all know I had pneumonia late last year,” Winfrey explained. “I had just gotten off of antibiotics last week because I had a bronchial infection. Stedman was late to the party … Stedman was one of those going, ‘I don’t see what everybody’s getting so upset about?’ And that’s why Stedman is at the guesthouse.”
Winfrey then explained that Graham didn’t arrive in California until Thursday of last week since he’d been traveling in the Midwest for speaking engagements.
“So Stedman is like, ‘What’s the procedure for coming home?’” Winfrey said he asked her. ” ‘The procedure is you ain’t coming and sleeping in my bed.’ ”
“He goes, ‘I’m not?’ And I go, ‘Have you not been paying attention to the news?’ ” she added. “Social distancing does not mean you go and sleep in the same bed with the person when you have just got off American Airlines. We’re taking it very seriously.”
Winfrey then brought up her recent interview with Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre.
On March 16, Elba revealed that he tested positive for the illness, and Dhowre was in the room with him for the announcement.
She was later criticized for not practicing social distancing. During the couple’s interview with Winfrey, Dhowre said she, too, has tested positive for the illness.
“I am the exact opposite of Sabrina,” Winfrey explained. “When Sabrina said that I went, ‘Uhm, I don’t wanna tell you Stedman’s at the guesthouse but okay.’ Sabrina is what? Thirty, 40 years younger than I am? So I think it makes a difference.”
In another part of the conversation, Winfrey said that she drops Graham’s food off at the front door of the guesthouse each morning, which was confirmed in a video that was posted to her magazine’s Instagram page.
The clip shows Winfrey and Graham having a pleasant exchange, but at the same time keeping their distance.
“All right; nice to see you,” Winfrey told him.
“Nice to see you, honey. Miss you,” Graham replied.
Many commented on the video and said the longtime couple is doing the right thing.
“It’s better being safe than sorry,” someone wrote under the clip.
