Charlotte, North Carolina, woman Roslyn Singleton is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer for the second time, and her husband Ray is right by her side. In a sweet Instagram video, Ray serenaded Roslyn before she went into surgery earlier this month.
He sang Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” while playing the piano as a smiling Roslyn looked on.
The sweet video went viral, but Ray just wanted to comfort his bride.
“I was nervous, and I was bored,” he explained to WSOC. “When she comes out, I don’t know if she’ll be able to see this, but I want to make something for her that will make her smile after having her head cut open.”
Roslyn was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, before she met Ray, but it went into remission after treatment. The couple got married in 2018 and she was diagnosed again in October 2019.
“The first round was more aggressive. The tumor was the size of an orange,” Roslyn said.
“I wasn’t expecting for it to come back, because I was young, and I was taking care of myself,” she continued. “I don’t eat pork. I was, like, ‘I’m doing good.’”
Regardless, Roslyn is maintaining a positive outlook.
“To me, cancer is a blessing, because it’s my way of telling people that no matter what it is, it’s going to be OK,” she said.
Thankfully, Ray isn’t going anywhere.
“I told my pastor and God in front of a lot of people, I’m with her through sickness and health, and this is just a part of that,” Ray said.
Daniel Caesar got wind of the video and invited the couple to attend his performance at Coachella. Roslyn’s surgery went well but she isn’t out of the woods yet. According to Ray’s Instagram page, she had to go to the hospital on Thursday because she was experiencing unexpected pain.
“She was complaining of excruciating back pain since last night,” he wrote. “Our surgeon Dr, Hage, put ANOTHER needle in her head and drained the excess #BrainJuice and sent it to the lab to be tested for infection. We are claiming those results come back negative and we’ll be sent home by the morning.”
