André 3000 has a new acting gig.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the OutKast member will play in AMC’s new series “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” which began production in Philadelphia this week.
André was recently seen playing a Mayan double flute in various parts of Philly, so it’s possible he was in the city at that time to film the new show. Before that he was spotted in Los Angeles International Airport playing the same instrument.
According to Deadline, “Dispatches from Elsewhere” is a 10-episode anthology series about a “Group of ordinary people who stumble onto a puzzle,” and they discover a deep mystery.
André has certainly been beefing up his acting resume ever since he stopped recording with his OutKast partner Big Boi.
Some of his most recent work includes 2018’s “High Life,” a science fiction film about a group of criminals who get sent into space. And before that he played Jimi Hendrix in the 2013 flick “Jimi: All Is by My Side.”
On the small screen, André has played in series like “American Crime,” which also starred Regina King.
But no matter how many acting jobs the talented artist gets, there will probably always be people who pine for a new OutKast album or even new solo music from 3 Stacks. But in a 2017 interview, André said his inspiration for making music isn’t what it used to be.
“I don’t have the pulse anymore,” he told GQ Style. “Rhythms change every generation. The intensity and the drums change. And I’m not on the pulse. I can’t pretend. It’s kinda like watching your uncle dance.”
“I’m slowing down, and I see these young kids coming up and I was them,” added the rap legend. “And at a certain point, no matter how Mayweather you are, I think it’s classy to be like, ‘You know what? I think I have, like, maybe two more Mayweather fights.'”
A release date for “Dispatches From Elsewhere” has yet to be announced.
