Nick Cannon Talks Interracial Dating, Says Black Men With Money Don’t Want to Be Told Who They Can Be With

Nick Cannon has a theory on why some Black men date white woman, and it has to do with the man’s level of success.

On Jan. 28, “The Masked Singer” host spoke on the topic with the Nation of Islam’s Rizza Islam, a 29-year-old from Compton, Calif. They spoke on Cannon’s “NCredible Conversations” podcast and had opposite opinions.

Nick Cannon said a successful Black man doesn't want to be told he can't date a white woman.

“Let’s get to it. No more beating around the bush,” said Cannon in the first few seconds of the interview. “Why I can’t be with a white woman? I don’t eat pork but god d–n the white women.”

Then Cannon got serious and asked what love has to do with skin color, and Islam said the Nation of Islam’s Minister Louis Farrakhan teaches that love is divine and supersedes race, so the two agreed on that point.

But Islam also placed emphasis on the words “not ideal” to describe how he believes white women aren’t the right match for Black men because of children.

“If you want to have the best of another Black man, you have to have a Black man and a Black woman to have a Black child,” Islam explained.

Cannon then chimed in and used the forbidden fruit theory as a reason why some Black men seek out Caucasian women.

“White women are looked at as success,” he stated. “In America, we see a white woman, ‘I couldn’t have you, my daddy couldn’t have you, my granddaddy couldn’t have you, I would get killed even looking at you.’ So now if I play for the NBA I want ’em all.”

“At times I believe once you get money I’m not following anybody else’s rules,” added Cannon. “I’m going to love who I want to love.”

Islam then made the point that since Black women have historically stuck with Black men when they were mistreated by society, it’s wrong for those same men to seek a relationship outside of their race once they’re doing well.

Throughout his career, Cannon has dated all kinds of women, including Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, Selita Ebanks, Kim Kardashian, Jessica White, Meagan Good and Eva Marcille. He was also married to Mariah Carey, who he has two children with, from 2008-2016.

Still independent.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
