‘Power’ Creator Courtney Kemp Announces Spinoffs and New Shows: ‘I’m Really Excited’

This is certainly a wonderful time for “Power” fans, because show creator Courtney Kemp has announced that she’ll be releasing some spinoffs. She made the announcement on Thursday via her Instagram page.

“Hey there #powertv,” fans,” she wrote. “Spinoffs coming at you and other series [that] I’m really excited to bring to you. And no I’m not telling you who survives Season 6. Thank you.”

Kemp’s announcement comes shortly after Deadline reported that she inked a “one-of-a-kind” deal with Lionsgate, Starz’s parent company. The agreement is for three years, and the Lionsgate executives expressed how much they admire Kemp’s abilities.

“Courtney is a one of a kind talent, and we couldn’t be more excited about this unique and exclusive deal,” said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate’s Television Group Chairman. “She’s an exceptional producer, incredible showrunner and artist, and we’re proud that she chose Lionsgate as her creative incubator. We look forward to the bold, original and provocative content she will offer our programming slates.”

On top of the deal, Kemp hired Lionsgate’s former scripted TV chief Chris Selak to be president of her End of Episode production company, which she expressed excitement about.

“I’m incredibly proud of the success we’ve had with ‘Power,’ and I’m excited about expanding our banner and diversifying the types of stories we’re telling,” said Kemp in a statement. “Chris brings with her a depth of experience that will elevate End of Episode to a new level, and I’m looking forward to exploring new ways of writing about my obsession: The intersections of violence, power, sex and romance.”

There’s no word yet on which “Power” characters will get a spinoff, but there’s already been rumors that one of them will surround Larenz Tate’s character Rashad Tate.
