Don Lemon didn’t pull any punches when responding back to President Trump‘s disrespectful remarks about him and LeBron James on Friday.
The CNN host interviewed James last week and asked the NBA player about the president’s actions toward athletes. The 33-year-old said he believed Trump was using sports to divide Americans.
The president lashed out at James’ comments in an insulting tweet that read, “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon… He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”
CNN viewers didn’t take Trump’s comments lightly and neither did Lemon.
During an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Monday, the journalist responded to the president’s personal attack on him.
“I want people to take the truth from this. Who’s the real dummy?” Lemon questioned. “They’re watching a report on someone who happens to be Black and they’re doing something really great for their community and not only changing kids lives but their families as well, changing the trajectories of their future and you call me dumb and him dumb by default.”
Lemon said if the chief of staff had nothing nice to say, then he shouldn’t have said “anything at all.”
The CNN host’s fire back at Trump didn’t end there. He began his show “Tonight with Don Lemon” addressing the president’s disparaging words.
“This president traffics in racism and is fueled by bullying. President Trump is trying a divide and conquers strategy here and here’s how it goes,” said Lemon. ” He divides by race and tries to conquer decency by smearing and besmirching the truth and the people who fight to uphold it.”
Trump’s offensive comments followed James’ announcement of opening his “IPromise” elementary school. They also lit a fire in Lemon.
“The overwhelmingly negative response to his unfair and unkind attack on a good man, LeBron James, shows America rejects what he is pedaling, most of America anyway, not all of America,” he added.
The news anchor has been extremely vocal about his disapproval of Trump’s behavior and the actions of the presidential administration.
