Baltimore Ravens tackle Bryant McKinnie has been hit with a $375,000 lawsuit by Charles “Pop” Young, the father of rapper Trick Daddy, alleging McKinnie ran up a hefty tab at two of his south Florida strip clubs.
According to the lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, McKinnie began building an exorbitant bill in February 2009 and ended in September 2010. Among the many details disclosed in the lawsuit, Young claims that McKinnie agreed to repay the money, but had failed to make any payments. According to NBC 6 South Florida, McKinnie allegedly wrote a promissory note on Oct. 1, 2010, acknowledging his debt to Young.
Young is suing for the undisclosed amount of money plus interest all court costs and legal fees.
“In the past we discussed this amount listed above once the NFL season starts and I began receiving my payroll checks,” according to the note written by McKinnie. “I hereby promise to speak to Mr. Young about this matter by October 5, 2010 and make arrangements to have this balance paid in full by December 1, 2010.”
McKinnie denied the allegations on Tuesday and appeared to be stunned by the lawsuit.
“I got no papers, I was never served,” McKinnie said. “I just called my lawyer about this because this is a bogus story. I just read the article. [Young] was working at those places and he’s tried to borrow money from me.”
He added: “People can put anything out there. What strip club gives you a $375,000 tab? It just sounds stupid to me. I’ve never heard of this in my life. This is bogus to me. For it to be even reported is stupid to me. . . I would never pay this guy because what he’s saying isn’t true,” McKinnie said. “I just found out about this when people started texting me. This is the least of my worries.”
McKinnie’s wages are being garnished this season due to a settlement of a separate lawsuit for a $4.5 million loan he took out during the NFL lookout. He also took a $1 million slash in pay to stay on the Ravens’ roster. McKinnie’s base salary was scheduled to be $3.2 million at the beginning of the season, but is now $2.2 million.
McKinnie’s contract stipulates he can make the $1 million back if he plays 50 percent of the Ravens’ offensive snaps, but that will be difficult since he was replaced by Michael Oher as the starting left tackle.
