Brandy Re-Ignites Old Beef with Monica and Gets Dragged Jarringly on Social Media

The Internet blasted R&B singer Brandy Norwood for taking a jab at artist Monica Brown at the 2018 Essence Festival.

Norwood performed the 1998 jam “The Boy Is Mine” at the New Orleans event and in the midst of singing she blurted out, “The song is mine” instead of the original lyrics. The crowd was taken aback and fans immediately took her words as a clear target towards Brown, who also debuts on the song.

The Internet dragged the “I Could Be Wrong” singer on social media and called her “bitter”.

One person wrote, “Brandy, it’s been 20 years. Let that hurt go. It’s not a good look.”

Another said, “What’s so disturbing though is that Brandy CONSTANTLY has Monica on her brain. Monica literally be minding her business, raising her kids, enjoying her husband, and showing love and supporting her friends. I don’t understand why Brandy is so obsessed with Monica. I don’t get it.”

One fan added, “Brandy got a lot to say about Monica when that woman is over the beef and ain’t thinking of her, which is funny seeing as how Monica is the one who was beating Miss Norwood’s ass backstage at the VMA’s.”

A rumor started in the 90’s that the two singers had beef with one another during Norwood and Brown’s early career in the music industry. Norwood was reportedly mad that the “So Gone” singer used the name of the collaboration for her second album after the mother of one wrote it. However, Brown was allegedly upset with Norwood for performing the track on “Jay Leno” without her.

The two squashed the alleged beef in 2012 after they released a collaboration “It All Belongs to Me.” Monica also confirmed with the “Huffington Post” Live in 2015 that it was all just a “marketing” plan that went sour and said they never feuded.

“It started off as brilliant marketing and what started to happen was people starting creating these skits and the fans divided and it became this kind of real thing,” the veteran singer said.

The 90’s single spent 13 weeks on the charts and won both ladies a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group in 1999.

Nevertheless, Norwood’s performance just reignited the beef rumors that were once put to rest.
