Meek Mill on the Importance of His Case: ‘I’ve Got a Lot of People Depending On Me’

Meek Mill sat down with NBC’s Lester Holt just one day after being released on bail. The Philadelphia born rapper has captured the nation’s attention as his case is quickly becoming yet another example of what’s wrong with the criminal justice system, especially with parole.

Robert Rihmeek Williams (Meek Mill) told Holt, “I ain’t feel free since I caught this case at age of 19 — I’m 30 now.” Adding, “It’s been a culture shock coming from a small cell coming back into the real world.”

Last year, Mill was sentenced 2-4 years in prison for violating his probation from a gun possession and drug case.

The rapper remains optimistic about his trial, “And me, I pray. I believe God is my first lawyer, I always believed that.” He continued, “I’ve got a lot of responsibility. I’ve got a lot of important people depending on me. And I’m not talking about them people, the public officials, I’m talking about them men that’s depending on me going through the same thing I’m going through.”

76ers co-owner Michael Rubin, who picked up Mill in a helicopter from prison said, “his story is so much bigger than is life. This is about how can he be the symbolic change agent that was needed for major primal justice reform.”
