The #MeToo movement has provided a platform for women to come forward about sexual abuse, harassment and other unwelcoming behavior. R&B singer Ashanti is adding to the stories with her own experience.
During an interview on SiriusXM’s “Conversations with Maria Menounos” Ashanti recalled an incident where an unnamed music producer put her in an uncomfortable situation. She told Menounos, “I’ve come across a situation where there was a certain producer that, you know, he had his little crush or whatever, but it wasn’t anything new, you know?” She continued, “And once I said ‘no,’ all of a sudden the track became $45K. It’s funny because he said something like, ‘Well just take a shower with me and let me do this.”
Luckily for the “Foolish” singer, she had some “scary” big brothers that made the producer apologize. Along with the apology the singer said, “I actually got three records for free! And I got two of them mixed and mastered for free also.” Ashanti recognized that everyone isn’t lucky enough to have “big brothers” on their side. “I’m blessed because I have that,” she said noting that harassment in the business is nothing new, “It happen it does and it’s unfortunate.”
