While appearing on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” filmmaker Michael Moore lashed out at the scores of white Americans that helped propel real estate mogul Donald Trump to the White House.
Moore, who’s most recent documentary, “Trumpland,” explores the rise and populist appeal of the president-elect, said white people must take responsibility for the subsequent increase in hate crimes and violence carried out by his supporters.
“White people … have a responsibility to reject anybody who stands in front of a camera who spews racism,” Moore explained. “Who spews sexism, misogyny. Who brags about being a sexual predator. I don’t care what your race is, but especially if you’re white. Because that means that you belong to the race that’s been in power forever.”
During the Saturday morning appearance, Moore reminded Christians and liberals alike that this nation was built off of the oppression of Black people. In addition, the documentarian said that it is not enough to just wear safety pins in silent protest or be an ally. Much more is required.
“This a country that was founded on genocide and built on the backs of slaves,” the director added. “So you have a special responsibility as a white person to always object to anybody who uses racism. [And] who spews this hatred.”
