From the age of 12 to 17, Craigmont High School graduate Kevuntez King saved enough money to pay off his college tuition by selling newspapers in his neighborhood.
According to a May profile from WMC Action News 5, the young man has sold newspapers for four to five years in order to pay for his college tuition in its entirety.
King’s story gained traction after one of his customers, Molly Laster, snapped a photo of him selling papers in his cap and gown.
Since speaking with WMC Action News 5 in late May, his incredible story has taken off and he has done other profiles detailing his great achievements.
According to a June 1 profile with Fox Q13 News, the young man saved his weekly earnings of $200 from the years he sold newspapers on Sundays.
In the interview with Fox Q13 News, King spoke highly of his mother.
He says, “When it came down to school, my mom didn’t have to come out of pocket to do anything or I didn’t have to take out any loans to go to school.”
King also offered some advice to others:
“Make sure you surround yourself with people that’s trying to go up in life and not trying to bring you down. Just stay positive and always believe in yourself and push for it.”
In addition to working hard selling the news, King graduated with a 4.0 GPA and will attend Historically Black College Tennessee State University.
