Diggy Simmons Set for New BET Show

Diggy Simmons, 17, is set to star in a new BET movie/series pilot that is being described as Entourage-like in format, referring to the popular HBO series loosely based on the life of that show’s producer, Mark Wahlberg. Young Simmons, who was introduced to the world via the reality show centered around his father and family, Run’s House, will star in a currently untitled two-hour original comedy.

BET ordered and green lit the show, where Daniel Dwayne Simmons will play the main character named Blake, and husband and wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil will direct. The directing team is behind BET’s hit comedy The Game and upcoming original pilot Being Mary Jane, which is set to premiere next year starring Gabrielle Union.

The Untitled Diggy Simmons Project, described as an Entourage-like film, is based on Diggy’s life as a blogger as he makes his way to the top.

The film will also star Allen Maldonado as Manny, who plays Blake’s best friend. Eddie Murphy’s daughter up-and-coming actress daughter Bria, will also be in the movie as Manny’s girlfriend Nia. Teyana Taylor will play Tiana, who is Manny’s twin sister.

Executive producing the movie with along with that Akils’ are Kenya Baris, Chris Lighty, Laurie Dobbins, and James Dubose. Simmons and Kevin Liles are co-executive producing. The film will start shooting in October.
