Once again the city of Chicago saw an eruption of violence over the weekend, this time leaving 9 people dead and at least 17 others wounded.
According to WBBM Newsradio’s Brandis Friedman, the youngest victim was a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the arm while walking with his parents in the West Pullman neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The boy is listed in stable condition.
One of the murders seemed straight out of a movie. A gunman stepped out of his car in the 800 block of East 45th Street near Cottage Grove Avenue and opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle.
Seventeen-year-old Lenard Truss was shot in the head and died at the scene. According to his family, Truss was not a gang member and was merely headed to a nearby convenience store.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jamel Shepard and 55-year old Darnell Walker were both shot in the chest while they sat on Shepard’s porch around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
