“Saturday Night Live” capitalized on a week full of ridiculous news headlines as the comedy skit show mocked President Obama taking a selfie with the Danish Prime Minister, the fake sign language interpreter that crashed Nelson Mandela’s memorial service and Fox News host Megyn Kelly’s comment that both Jesus and Santa are white.
The long-standing comedy show has never been one to hold back when it comes to mocking important people and last night’s episode was no exception.
“SNL” resident Obama impersonator, Jay Pharaoh, took to the podium to discuss why the president felt like Lemony Snicket.
“I felt like Lemony Snicket, because I experienced a series of unfortunate events,” the faux Obama said. “First I got roped into taking a selfie with the blonde female Danish prime minister. Some people said Michelle was angry at me for that, but I talked to her afterward and I can assure you she was furious.”
The speech went on for a short while before Kenan Thompson appeared behind Pharaoh and began his role as the fake sign language interpreter from Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.
Thompson began his hilarious flailing as he found simple ways to try to “translate” what Pharaoh was saying in his speech. Eventually, he gave up and began making random gestures that caused the live audience to burst into laughter.
The faux president called on his Secret Service agents to carry Thompson away.
Just as he prepared to return to this speech, Kate McKinnon appeared by his side as German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“I have und favor to ask,” McKinnon said in a hilariously awful German accent. “Ze Danish Prime Minister has been bragging all over Northern Europe about her selfie with you. And I vas hoping that I could get one as well.”
While the Obama impersonator was hesitant at first, he eventually gave in and posed for one serious selfie and a silly-face selfie.
Thompson also played a black Santa Claus later in the show for the “Weekend Update” regarding Megyn Kelly’s controversial comments about Jesus and Santa both being white.
“You heard of secret Santa?” Thompson asked as he appeared next to the faux news anchor. “Well here’s a secret for ya… I’m black as hell.”
The “Weekend Update” then quickly became filled with Thompson referencing black stereotypes and racial profiling issues that explained why Santa couldn’t reveal his true identity.
The skit goes on to explain why Mrs. Claus can’t be black and ends with Thompson asking people not to call the police on him when he sneaks into their homes on Christmas Eve.
