The world lost an icon yesterday with the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Mandela touched people from all walks of life, including entertainers and musicians. Last night singer R. Kelly and talk show host Arsenio Hall reminisced about meeting the legendary leader, and Kelly performed a tribute on Hall’s show.
As reported by consequenceofsound.net:
“R Kelly honored the late Nelson Mandela with an emotional performance of ‘Soldier’s Heart’ on Thursday night’s episode of The Arsenio Hall Show. Kelly wrote the song about Mandela and performed it for him back in 2009. Kelly discussed their encounter and the impact Mandela had on his life during a brief montage aired prior to the performance.”
Kelly was there to promote his new album Black Panties, but in wake of the news of Mandela’s passing, the conversation switched to the experiences the two men had meeting the anti-apartheid icon.
