Kendrick Lamar has set the rap world on fire again. Since he dropped his “Control” verse in August, he’s been the most talked about rapper out these days, and now his BET Cypher verse is sending waves through the media again.
Kendrick’s verse was not only the most entertaining moment from the BET Hip Hop awards, but it is also the most controversial as its is widely speculated that he’s dissing Drake in the verse.
A day after Kendrick’s cypher aired on TV, radio host Sway Calloway sat down with Kendrick’s fellow TDE label mate to discuss the cypher and in a surprise to Kendrick, they called him on air to ask if it was indeed directed at Drake.
According to smokingsection.uproxx.com:
“In the immediate aftermath of Killer Kendrick’s lethal BET Cypher verse from the other day, Sway Calloway snagged ScHoolboy Q to throw in more fuel to the competitive fire. The ever-savvy Quincey, however, didn’t take the bait, no matter how he disguised his questions. The Shade 45 host prodded Schoolboy to state for the record that K. Dot’s verse was directed at Drake, but Q denied it over and over again in a no-it-wasn’t-but-yes-it-was kind of way.
“And in one final, hilarious desperation move, Sway had Q call up Kendrick to ask him directly about intended dark of his shots. And though, of course, he wouldn’t admit it either, the segment did make for some heavily entertaining clips.”
Kendrick didn’t respond to Sway’s question about Drake, and his phone mysteriously cuts off, leaving us with no resolution. So for now we’re left to speculate who Kendrick was talking to during his cypher.
