Oakland quarterback Terrelle Pryor suffered a concussion after a head-to-head collision with Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard during the Raiders’ 37-21 loss to Denver Monday night.
Because of the injury, it is doubtful Pryor will play in the Raiders’ home game Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Pryor was hit on a second-and-goal play on the Broncos’ 6-yard line when Woodyard blitzed and blasted the QB for a 2-yard loss. The quarterback stayed down with his face planted in the grass but got up for two more plays. Pryor went back to the locker room and QB Matt Flynn finished the game.
When asked whether it was an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit, Raiders coach Dennis Allen said it looked legal.
“Within the rules, it’s inside the tackle box,” Allen said. “But it was a pretty good hit.”
Asked whether Pryor would play against Washington, Allen said, “I have no idea. He’s got to go through the protocol, just like everybody else. He took a shot on that particular play, but I think that play could have happened to just about anybody.”
Pryor played well up to the point where he was hurt. He finished with a QB rating of 112.4 by completing 19 of 28 passes for 281 yards. His best play came when he connected for a 73-yard touchdown pass to Denarius Moore. He also rushed four times for 36 yards.
“It’s a guy that’s getting his chance, and with each week, he’s getting a little bit more comfortable,” Raiders safety Charles Woodson said. “He did some good things tonight, so it would be a tough blow [to lose him], especially for him and his development as a player if he’s not able to shake it off and bounce back and come back next week. We’ll just see how that pans out.”
