There is already speculation that Kerry Washington is pregnant by her new husband Nnamdi Asomugha, after her sudden preference for tummy-hiding gowns and her brief appearance on the red carpet at 2013 Emmy Awards.
The “Scandal” star has been the goddess of red carpet fashion lately, and last night was certainly no exception.
She stepped out in a Marchesa gown that had an intricate cream, white and gold design.
Her gown cinched in at her waist then skimmed loosely over her body, which means it was a great dress for keeping a baby bump tucked away.
The detail in the gown was stunning, gold and cream-colored flowers and lace accents trailed from the the bust down to the hemline.
Simple accessories and natural makeup completed the look and assured that Washington was one of the fashion favorites of the night for most people, although not every critic agreed.
San Jose Mercury News actually added the fierce actress to their worst dressed list, along with actresses Connie Britton and Julianne Hough.
Meanwhile, the pregnancy rumors are stemming from more than just the fact that the dress wasn’t fitted around her midsection. In addition to all the loose gowns she’s been wearing lately, Kerry usually dominates the red carpet and gives tons of interviews. For the Emmys, however, she only spoke to a few media outlets at the very beginning of the red carpet before rushing inside Nokia Theater.
For the time that she was on the carpet, she also appeared to be quite uncomfortable and in some shots she actually looked ill.
While Kerry usually has complete control of her facial expressions and poses in every shot, last night she was caught with a blank stare and even wincing in pain or discomfort.
Of course, only time will tell if the actress really is expecting a baby, but it’s clear that there was something amiss about Kerry at the Emmys last night.
One lady who does not flinch when the spotlight is on her, however, is Kerry’s TV character, Olivia Pope, who has earned the actress serious critic acclaim.

While actress Joy Bryant wasn’t at the awards, she did reveal that she would be rooting for her good friend from her couch at home.
“I would be so psyched if Kerry Washington won,” she said at People Style Watch’s Hollywood Denim Party at the Pailhouse in West Hollywood.
While she is friends with Kerry she explained that her desire for the “Scandal” star to win was much deeper than just a friendship.
“She’s put in her time, she’s been in the business for enough time, she’s done really great work,” she added. “She’s an intelligent person. She deserves it.”
Of course, she did admit that she was biased.
“Yes, she’s the s**t, so why shouldn’t she get it?” she said. “Plus she’s my friend. I’m totally biased, but whatever.”
Joy wasn’t the only person putting their bets on Kerry for the night.
“I think she’s going to win,” Kerry’s “Scandal” co-star, Giullermo Diaz told E! News on Thursday night. “I think it’s her year and she’s already a winner with us.”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t Washington’s night and the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series was snagged by Claire Danes from “Homeland.”
